Christopher John is a professional photographer and photography educator with more than four decades of experience behind the camera.
Through The Crafted Image Academy, he helps photographers move beyond simply operating a camera and begin to understand how strong photographs are created — by learning to recognise light, composition, timing, and the visual relationships within a scene.

How difficult is the location to access?
This workshop takes place along walking paths and within natural bushland areas at Tilligerry Habitat.
Access is straightforward, but participants should be comfortable walking short distances and standing while photographing.
Do I need to be an experienced photographer?
This is a Beyond The Basics workshop, which means participants should already understand basic camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
The focus here is on observation, composition, and recognising stronger images in natural environments.
What kind of photography will we be doing?
This workshop focuses on smaller scenes, details, and less obvious compositions within the natural environment — rather than wide landscapes or fast-moving wildlife.
Do I need a macro lens?
No. A macro lens can be useful, but it is not required.
A standard zoom or short telephoto lens works well for most subjects explored during the session.
What should I bring to this workshop?
Bring your camera, a suitable lens, spare batteries, memory cards, and comfortable walking shoes.
A macro lens or polarising filter can be useful but is not essential.
What happens if the weather is poor?
This workshop can still run in overcast conditions, which are often ideal for nature photography.
If conditions are unsafe or unsuitable, the session may be postponed and you will be notified.
