The Art of Seeing Light is a guided coastal photography experience at Birubi Beach, where changing coastal light, textured rock formations, moving water, and open shoreline environments create a constantly changing coastal environment for photography.
As the light shifts through sunset and blue hour, you’ll learn to recognise subtle changes in direction, shadow, texture, and reflection — and use them to create images that feel intentional, balanced, and beautifully crafted.

How difficult is the location to access?
The workshop involves a short walk from the meeting area to nearby beach and rock platforms. The terrain can be uneven in places, so participants should wear sturdy walking shoes suitable for coastal environments.
Do I need to be an experienced photographer?
This is a Beyond The Basics workshop, which means participants should already understand basic camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. The session focuses more on visual awareness and composition rather than basic camera operation.
What kind of photography will we be doing?
The workshop focuses primarily on coastal landscape photography, including rock formations, tidal pools, reflections, and moving water. Participants will also learn how to work creatively with the changing colours and shadows of early morning light.
Will we photograph the actual sunset?
Yes, but the sunset itself is only one part of the experience. Much of the learning happens during blue hour and the changing light immediately after sunset, when subtle colours and directional light create beautiful photographic opportunities.
Are filters required for this workshop?
Filters are not required, but they can be useful. A polarising filter can help reduce reflections on water, and neutral density filters can allow longer exposures to create smoother water movement.
What happens if the weather is poor?
Coastal weather conditions can change quickly. Overcast skies often produce excellent photographic light. If conditions become unsafe due to wind or heavy rain, the session may be rescheduled.
